New Year celebrations in Tokyo.

The Sri Lankan New Year celebrations were held in Tokyo’s Chofu city on recently, with a large gathering of over 5,000 Sri Lankan and Japanese community members from all parts of Japan who participated at the occasion, which was held for the 24th consecutive occasion.
The Chief Guest at the opening ceremony was Mayor of Chofu City Yoshiki Nagatamo. In his opening remarks, Ambassador Admiral Wasantha Karannagoda stressed the importance of national events of this nature to promote Sri Lanka’s national unity and traditions in foreign nations in addition to strengthening bilateral relations between Japan and Sri Lanka, through such cultural exchanges.
The event was organized in joint collaboration with the Sri Lankan Associations, Volunteer Organizations, The New Year Committee and the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Japan.
As a well known association in Japan SLAEAJ members have given great support to make the event a success. SLAEAJ members became main sponsors of the event. Mr. Saman Priyankara has played vital role of this event as a treasure appointed by H.E the ambassador admiral Wasantha Karannagoda. Mr. Anura Batuwatta, Mr. Jitendra Samarawickrama and Mr. Lasantha Nandasiri also made remarkable dedication on behalf of the SLAEAJ association, was appreciated by everyone
